Reader privacy and newsletter data
MAN/MACHINE is an editorial publication. We collect only the information needed to operate the site, publish our work, and communicate with readers who choose to hear from us.
Newsletter subscriptions
When readers subscribe to the MAN/MACHINE newsletter, we collect the email address they provide and use it to send subscription confirmations, editorial updates, and related publication notices.
Newsletter delivery may be handled through third-party email platforms such as Mailchimp. These providers process subscriber data only for the purpose of delivering and managing email campaigns on our behalf.
We do not sell subscriber data. We do not rent subscriber lists. We do not use newsletter subscription data to build advertising profiles.
Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link. Readers may unsubscribe at any time.
Analytics and technical data
Like most websites, MAN/MACHINE may collect limited technical information needed to understand site performance, security, and basic audience behavior. This may include browser type, device type, referring pages, approximate location, pages visited, and similar non-sensitive usage data.
This information is used to improve the publication, diagnose technical issues, protect the site, and understand which editorial formats are useful to readers.
Cookies and tracking
MAN/MACHINE aims to use tracking sparingly and transparently. If analytics, embedded media, advertising, affiliate links, or sponsorship measurement tools are used, they may rely on cookies or similar technologies.
We do not intentionally use these tools to collect sensitive personal information.
Advertising, sponsorships, and affiliate links
MAN/MACHINE may publish sponsored content, affiliate links, commercial recommendations, or advertising placements. These will be handled separately from newsletter subscription data.
If a reader clicks an external link, ad, affiliate link, sponsor link, or embedded media element, that third-party service may process data according to its own privacy practices.
AI tools and editorial workflow
MAN/MACHINE may use AI tools as part of research, drafting, editing, translation, summarization, formatting, or production workflows. We do not intentionally submit newsletter subscriber lists or private reader contact data into AI tools for unrelated processing.
More detail about our editorial use of AI is available on our How we use AI page.
Data retention
We keep newsletter subscription data for as long as a reader remains subscribed, or as long as needed to manage subscription records, comply with legal obligations, prevent abuse, or maintain accurate publication records.
Reader choices
Readers can unsubscribe from newsletter emails at any time using the link included in each campaign. Readers may also contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of their newsletter subscription data where applicable.
